Turkmenistan President Receives Head of Nuclear Test Ban Organization

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Monday received the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), Robert Floyd, according to official Turkmen media.

During the meeting, Robert Floyd praised Turkmenistan’s foreign policy based on its status of permanent neutrality and aimed at strengthening global peace and security. He also noted that the CTBTO attaches great importance to cooperation with Turkmenistan.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said this year marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. He noted that Turkmenistan was among the first countries to sign the treaty, underscoring its commitment to peace and security.

He also said that during his visit Robert Floyd will take part in a high-level regional conference dedicated to the anniversary and wished him successful meetings.

Both sides highlighted the constructive and effective nature of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the CTBTO. The country was noted as consistently fulfilling its international obligations on nuclear test bans, non-proliferation, and promoting a nuclear-weapon-free zone in Central Asia.

On the same day, Ashgabat hosted a regional high-level meeting marking the 30th anniversary of the treaty’s adoption. The event brought together deputy foreign ministers of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, the CTBTO Executive Secretary, as well as heads of diplomatic missions of Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic.
