World Bank Provides Loan to Finance Turkmenistan’s COVID-19 Preventive Measures
Turkmen Minister of Finance and Economy and the World Bank representatives discussed further expansion of cooperation.

Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) of the World Bank Group signed a $20 million loan agreement to finance COVID-19 preventive measures in the country, the Turkmen Ministry said in its press release.

At the building of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan on Monday, the Minister of Finance and Economy of the country Muhammetgeldy Serdarov held an online meeting with the World Bank (WB) Country Manager for Turkmenistan Jan-Peter Olters and WB Regional Director for Central Asia Tatiana Proskuryakova.

The meeting participants discussed the implementation of the relevant Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on obtaining a loan for the health care system of Turkmenistan under the COVID-19 Response Project, and discussed further expansion of cooperation.

The ceremony of signing the loan agreement took place during the meeting.

Funds in the amount of $20 million received from the IBRD will be used to purchase the necessary COVID-19 preventive equipment, drugs and medical equipment, including reagents and syringes for injections.
