CIS Leaders Gather in St. Petersburg For Informal Summit

The informal meeting of the Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) took place at the Konstantinovsky Palace in Russia’s St. Petersburg on Friday, according to the Press Service of the President of Russia.

The summit was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

In his speech, the Russian Leader Putin said, “The development of trade and investment partnership and the stability of economies will be the main topic at the CIS summit in Kazakhstan.”

“Today we have the opportunity to compare notes before the annual full-format meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State next week in Astana. On its agenda, Kazakhstan's chairmanship puts really important topics of integration cooperation in politics, economics, and the humanitarian sphere. As usual, a solid package of joint documents is being prepared for approval,” Putin added.

A meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State will be held under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan on October 14, 2022.
