Officials from Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Railway Transport and the Georgian Railway joint-stock company discussed future areas of cooperation in railway transport and logistics during the talks held in Tbilisi. The meeting took place as part of the visit of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s state visit to Georgia, the Ministry of Railway Transport reported on Thursday.

The parties stressed the importance of continuing cooperation to increase freight volumes, create favorable tariff conditions for cargo transportation through the territories of Turkmenistan and Georgia and enhance the two countries’ transit potential.

During the meeting noted that there are significant opportunities to further expand bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the transport and logistics sector.

The participants also highlighted the rapid development of the Asia–Pacific Countries–China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan–Turkey–Europe (CASCA+) international multimodal corridor. REgular meetings and consultations are being held between the railway authorities of Turkmenistan and Georgia, while relevant measures are being implemented to expand freight transportation.

The parties emphasized that close cooperation is continuing to increase export-import rail freight traffic, develop logistics corridors, and strengthen the transit potential of both countries.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed confidence that the talks would provide fresh momentum for transport and logistics cooperation, help increase cargo flows between Asia and Europe and further expand mutually beneficial cooperation.
