Turkmenistan May Join Turkic Council in Special Status
The officials discussed the current level and prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Turkic Council.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held talks with the Secretary General of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States (Turkic Council) Baghdad Amreyev, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit. During the meeting, the sides discussed the possibility of Turkmenistan joining the Turkic Council in a special status.

The officials discussed the current level and prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Turkic Council, aimed at promoting constructive partnership between the countries of the organization, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its press release.

The Turkmen side noted that Turkmenistan stands for the development of partnership within the framework of the Turkic Council, in particular on issues of maintaining stability and security, including energy and environmental in the region and beyond, according to the statement.

The Turkmen side also stressed that it positively considers the possibilities of using the potential of the Turkic Council to expand cooperation in the fields of transport and communications.

The Turkic Council was established in 2009 as an intergovernmental organization. It consists of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan as member countries and Hungary as an observer state.

In Early-March, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in an informal Summit of the Turkic Council, held via video link, as an honorary guest.
