Mary American Corner seeks EducationUSA Adviser

SUMMARY
This position is responsible for leading U.S. higher education preparation related to EducationUSA initiatives and providing access to U.S. higher education opportunities at the American Corner in Mary, Turkmenistan. This is a full-time position that will require the selected candidate to physically reside in the Mary region. This position reports directly to the Prep4Success Program Manager and the American Councils Country Director, and will require close coordination with the Mary American Corner team to increase the quantity and quality of U.S. higher education related content at the American Corner in Mary, Turkmenistan.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Preparing MAC visitors to apply for and succeed in a U.S. higher education institution;
- Leading Undergarduate Cohort Advising group activities in Mary region;
- Developing and offering additional, unique trainings, projects, workshops, presentations and other local initiatives that best meet the U.S. higher education preparation needs of MAC visitors;
- Developing and offering additional, unique trainings, projects, workshops, presentations, and other local initiatives that develop life or academic skills necessary for success in a U.S. higher education environment or to enhance their application;
- Mentoring individuals and structured groups of visitors on how to independently apply to U.S. institutions;
- Assisting visitors with using EducationUSA and MAC resources that meet their interests and academic goals;
- Following EducationUSA required standards and methods for advising MAC visitors interested in U.S. higher education;
- Providing information on and preparation for common U.S. standardized tests required for admission to U.S. colleges and universities;
- Giving presentations and responding to inquiries related to U.S. higher education opportunities;
- Assisting U.S. higher education institutions with reaching out to audiences in Turkmenistan;
- Ensuring that the MAC contains fresh & accurate information about U.S. higher education;
- Creatively coming up with new ways to promote U.S. higher education and attract new audiences;
- Providing logistical support for visiting specialists from Ashgabat/abroad to complement U.S. higher education activities;
- Developing and submitting reports on time and at the required standard for U.S. higher education grants and programs at MAC;
- Organizing and maintaining reports, participant’s database, and presentation files at MAC;
- Attending training conferences, experience sharing workshops, and U.S. higher education promotional events in other regions of Turkmenistan and potentially internationally;
- Coordinating and vetting all U.S. higher education activities and initiatives at MAC through the MAC Manager;
- Managing all aspects of the Corner in the absence of the MAC Manager;
- Collaborating with the MAC Manager and Assistant on developing monthly calendars at MAC and providing IMO posts on a weekly/month basis as assigned;
- Assisting with MAC statistics collection and other required reporting;
- Providing administrative support to MAC as needed and assigned;
- Performing other related duties as required and assigned;
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required from a U.S. or foreign institution with a U.S. academic model (i.e. AUBG), or local university with minimum two years of teaching or working experience;
- Experience training and mentoring volunteers, developing, organizing and implementing projects (at an American Corner preferred)
- Experience in academic training, processes and procedures related to the U.S. higher education application cycle, as well as standardized testing procedures(preferred);
- Strong MS Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook, Internet, administrative and other general computer skills.
- Knowledge of and experience with the U.S. higher education system and structure;
- Strong writing, communication, cross-cultural, and interpersonal skills;
- Strong English language skills; Turkmen and/or Russian language skills;
- Demonstrated experience with international standards for academic writing such as MLA, APA, or other citation system;
- Demonstrated training or teaching experience, organizational background, and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and contribute to a team effort;
- Positive and enthusiastic attitude;
- Turkmen citizenship.
- No immediate family members applying for/enrolled in an American Councils administered program at time of employment or during tenure of employment.
In general, all American Councils staff members are expected to support a positive, team atmosphere and step outside of their formal roles from time-to-time to support the organization, special initiatives, or individual programs when needed.
