National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, held a meeting with Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on July 16, 2025, during his official visit to Baku, according to AZERTAC.
During the talks, the two sides discussed prospects for interparliamentary cooperation, highlighting the importance of regular contacts and bilateral dialogue. Gafarova expressed confidence that the visit of the Turkmen delegation would give new momentum to relations between the two countries. She emphasized that the deep historical, cultural, and linguistic ties form a strong foundation for partnership.
Gafarova noted that Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan maintain effective cooperation across various international platforms, including within the Non-Aligned Movement, where Baku’s initiatives consistently receive support from Ashgabat. Bilateral collaboration continues to develop in areas such as energy, transport, and humanitarian affairs.
Special attention was given to the role of interparliamentary friendship groups in strengthening ties between the legislative bodies of both nations. The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on issues of mutual interest.
As part of his visit, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also met with Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office.
