Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Meets UN Deputy Secretaries-General

Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov met with Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, on September 22 in New York during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported.

The discussions focused on Turkmenistan’s cooperation with the UN system in peacekeeping, strengthening international security and advancing preventive diplomacy, including the activities of the UN Regional Centre for Central Asia. Special attention was given to Turkmenistan’s initiative to declare 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust and to include the issue of “Neutrality for Peace and Security” on the General Assembly’s agenda.

On the same day, Meredov met with Rabab Fatima, UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States. They discussed the outcomes of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), the implementation of the Avaza Political Declaration and the Program of Action for 2024–2034. The Turkmen side confirmed its readiness to use the General Assembly platform to promote LLDC3 decisions and hold joint events on sustainable development.

Additionally, Meredov met with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla. They discussed prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation in political, diplomatic, economic and humanitarian spheres, enhancing engagement in international forums and maintaining regular contacts between foreign ministries.
