National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held talks in a narrow-format meeting with the head of Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, during a visit to Kazan on Wednesday, Turkmenistan’s state media reported.
Minnikhanov thanked Berdimuhamedov for accepting the invitation to visit and highlighted the importance of bilateral cooperation, which he said has steadily developed over many years.
Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude for the invitation and hospitality, noting that Turkmenistan and Tatarstan share deep historical roots, as well as common cultural and spiritual values. The two sides reviewed the results of joint projects implemented across various sectors and reaffirmed the importance of expanding cooperation.
Following the narrow-format meeting, official talks were held between Berdimuhamedov and Minnikhanov with the participation of delegations from both sides.
The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty said the 17th International Economic Forum “Russia–Islamic World: KazanForum 2026,” currently underway in Kazan, reflects Tatarstan’s growing international standing. Berdimuhamedov also congratulated Minnikhanov and the people of Tatarstan on Kazan being named the cultural capital of the Islamic world this year and wished the forum success.
The National Leader of the Turkmen people expressed confidence that the visit by the Turkmen delegation would contribute to the development of bilateral relations, which form an important part of the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and Russia.
Particular attention was paid to cooperation prospects in digitalization and high technology. Berdimuhamedov noted Turkmenistan’s strong interest in Tatarstan’s experience as one of Russia’s leading IT centers and praised existing cooperation between technoparks and the implementation of digital solutions in the economy.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Berdimuhamedov and Minnikhanov expressed confidence that the visit would contribute to strengthening the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and Russia and wished the peoples of the two countries peace and prosperity.
