A commemorative event marking the 10th anniversary of Türkiye’s Democracy and National Unity Day was held at the Turkish Cultural Center in Ashgabat on Wednesday. The day commemorates citizens who defended Türkiye’s freedom and constitutional order during the events of July 15.
Türkiye’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan Ahmet Demirok delivered opening remarks. He highlighted the significance of July 15, 2016, in Türkiye’s modern history and stressed the importance of protecting democratic institutions and national unity.
The diplomat also expressed gratitude to Turkmenistan, noting the country’s principled position and solidarity against all forms of terrorism. He thanked National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov for their consistent support for the Turkish people during that difficult period.
Burhanettin Duran, Head of Communications of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, then addressed participants via video link. He said the events of July 15, 2016, hold a special place in Türkiye’s modern history and emphasized the importance of protecting democratic institutions and national unity, as well as international cooperation in combating terrorism and other contemporary challenges.
Following the official part of the program, prayers were offered in memory of those who lost their lives. Participants then viewed a photo exhibition dedicated to the events of July 15, 2016.
