On the first day of an educational trip to Türkiye’s Çanakkale and Balıkesir provinces, representatives of Turkmenistan’s media visited the Adatepe Olive Oil Museum in the village of Küçükkuyu in Çanakkale province. They also attended the third Edremit Olive Oil Tasting Festival, held along the coast in Güre, in the Edremit district of Balıkesir province.
The Adatepe Olive Oil Museum opened in 2001 and is one of Türkiye’s first museums dedicated to olive oil production. Housed in a building formerly used for soap making, the museum introduces visitors to the history of olive oil production and traditional manufacturing methods. Its exhibits include antique presses, tools used to harvest olives, and containers for transporting and storing oil. Visitors can also learn about the region’s olive-growing traditions and the characteristics of local olive oil production.
The festival, attended by Turkmen journalists, took place Oct. 9-11, 2026. It aims to promote the region’s olive-growing culture and local products. The program included tastings of different types of olive oil, exhibitions by local producers, culinary presentations, chef demonstrations, workshops and concerts. The festival is among the events showcasing Edremit’s olive oil and its place in local culture.
That day, the Turkmen journalists also toured the coastal area of Güre. Located at the foot of the Kaz Mountains, the area is known for its natural beauty, seaside recreation and thermal springs. Olive-growing traditions, local cuisine and natural attractions are among the region’s key tourism assets.
The visits to the museum and festival gave the Turkmen media representatives an opportunity to learn more about the region’s historical and cultural heritage, local production and tourism potential.
