Representatives of Turkmenistan’s media visited the natural attractions of Türkiye’s Çanakkale and Balıkesir provinces on the second day of their trip. The program included excursions to Şahindere Canyon and the Kaz Mountains, offering participants an opportunity to explore the rich plant life of Mount Ida and admire the region’s scenic landscapes.
Located in the Edremit district of Balıkesir province, near Altınoluk, Şahindere Canyon is known for its steep cliffs, forested mountain slopes and natural scenery. The Cam Seyir Terası, a glass observation platform above the canyon, allows visitors to take in the surrounding landscape from above. From the platform, visitors can see the canyon’s depths, the forested slopes of the Kaz Mountains and panoramic views of the Gulf of Edremit.
During the excursion, participants also learned about the plant life of Mount Ida. The Kaz Mountains are known for their forests, trees growing at different elevations and diverse plant species. The region’s geography and varied climatic conditions contribute to its rich biodiversity.
One of the memorable moments of the trip was seeing a tree locally known as Ağlayan Ağaç, or the “Weeping Tree.” Such distinctive natural attractions add to the appeal of the area for visitors interested in nature. Participants also visited the glass observation platform, where they could admire the scenery and take photographs.
The forests, canyons and panoramic viewpoints of the Kaz Mountains highlight the natural tourism potential of the Çanakkale and Balıkesir regions. The area offers an attractive destination for travelers seeking to explore nature, enjoy the fresh air and discover the distinctive landscapes of Türkiye’s Aegean region.
