A Turkmen-Chinese business forum focused on expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation between the two countries opened Friday in Shanghai. More than 500 representatives of government agencies and business communities from Turkmenistan and China are taking part, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported.

The forum was organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan in partnership with TMT Consulting Group as part of Turkmenistan’s participation in the ninth China International Import Expo (CIIE 2026).

As part of the forum, participants visited Turkmenistan’s national pavilion at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, where the country’s economic achievements and products of domestic manufacturers are on display. Mergen Gurdov, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan, delivered opening remarks at the plenary session titled “Developing the Great Silk Road: A New Stage of Strategic Partnership.”

Discussions focused on prospects for expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation, developing industrial partnerships and strengthening direct contacts between the business communities of the two countries. Participants also explored opportunities for joint projects in the energy, textile, construction and electrical engineering sectors, the introduction of modern technologies and diversification of bilateral trade. Chinese partners were briefed on Turkmenistan’s investment potential and conditions for foreign investors.

The forum is expected to conclude with the signing of several bilateral cooperation documents between business organizations from Turkmenistan and China. The event will run through Nov. 7.
