The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty (People's Council) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with President of Iran Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi at the Jumhuri Palace in Saadabad complex in Tehran on Tuesday. The meeting was part of the working visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen people to Iran.
President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi said the Iranian-Turkmen relations built on the common historical and cultural roots and traditions stretching back thousands of years are successfully developing today in a wide range of areas, including in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian spheres and confirmed Iran's readiness to expand cooperation with Turkmenistan implementing the creative foreign policy strategy.
In turn, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said Turkmenistan pays special attention to the development of fruitful relations with neighboring countries, including Iran, and stressed that there is great potential for building a productive partnership.
The sides comprehensively discussed strengthening trade and economic relations, which are among the priorities of the Turkmen-Iranian cooperation. Noting that there are great opportunities for expansion of productive partnership, the sides identified the natural gas, electricity, transport and water sectors as one of the main cooperation areas of concern. In this regard, they discussed the status of agreements reached in these areas and the possibilities of implementing new joint projects.
At the end of the meeting, the sides adopted a Joint Declaration between Turkmenistan and Iran and signed a number of bilateral documents.
During his visit, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with Sadegh Amoli Larijani, Chairman of the Political Expediency Council of Iran, and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Chairman of the Majlis of the Islamic Shura of Iran.
