Pakistan received a shipment of 21 trucks carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, crossing through the Torkham border between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Arab News newspaper reported on Wednesday, citing a Pakistani customs official.
“At least 21 trucks have entered Pakistan so far,” Hammad Ali, a senior official at the Customs Department at the Torkham border, told the Arab News.
Zarqeeb Shinwari, a Pakistani custom clearing agent at the border, reported that 15 LPG containers are parked at the terminal. The official also noted that three tankers with LPG have been arriving on the Pakistani side of the border daily for the past week.
“We have imported ten containers with 5,000 tons of LPG from Uzbekistan. We also have an arrangement with Turkmenistan to import another 5,000 tons of LPG very soon,” the senior manager of Epic Energy Ltd noted.
Irfan Khokar, chairman of the LPG Distributors Association, said the flow of LPG into Pakistan had now started via the shortest route, Afghanistan, which would stabilize its prices in the country.
According to The News e-paper, as per the agreement, Russia and the Central Asian states would export 200 thousand tons of LPG to Pakistan every month.
