The transport departments of Tajikistan and Iran signed a Memorandum on international cargo transit via the Iranian port of Chabahar.
The document was signed on November 8 in Dushanbe, with the presence of the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan reports.
The memorandum aims to simplify coordination procedures, reduce duties and fees on road transport, attract cargo from other countries to routes passing through the Iranian port, facilitate mutual investments in transportation infrastructure projects and ensure the safety of passenger transport, vehicle movement and cargo storage.
Chabahar Seaport is located in south-eastern Iran on the Gulf of Oman and has direct access to the Indian Ocean.
According to the report, Tajikistan can access the Indian Ocean through the above port via the international multimodal corridor China-Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Türkiye-Europe.
