COP-28 to Discuss Turkmenistan's Accession to Global Methane Pledge

At the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-28), the attention of the world's leading states will be drawn to the matter of Turkmenistan's accession to the Global Methane Pledge (GMP), Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov stated in his report to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov during the regular government session on Friday.

The Foreign Minister updated on the current preparations for Turkmenistan's participation in COP-28, discussing the documents that will be adopted during the forum and outlining the planned activities within its framework.

Furthermore, during the Interdepartmental Commission on Environmental Protection meeting held on November 23, 2023, it was proposed to announce Turkmenistan's accession to the Global Methane Partnership (GMP) at COP-28.

At the same time, Rashid Meredov initiated continued cooperation with international organisations and partner countries within the framework of joint projects and programmes aimed at meeting GMP conditions at the national level.

As per the statement of the Foreign Minister, the ministries and departments of Turkmenistan have conducted a comprehensive analysis of the documents scheduled for adoption at COP-28. Upon this analysis, Turkmenistan has been recommended to become a participant in several of these documents.

In a summary of the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov highlighted the significance of the documents adopted at the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP-28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Recognising the importance of enhanced cooperation with participating parties, the Head of State instructed specific directions to the Deputy Prime Minister and the Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the government meeting, the government discussed priority tasks related to the country's socio-economic development and several other related matters.
