Turkmenistan and US Discuss Cooperation on Methane Emission Reduction

Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov spoke with John Kerry, the Special Representative of the President of the United States of America, on Climate, the official Turkmen media reports. 

The main areas of conversation were preparations for the forthcoming COP-28 conference in Dubai, climate problems, in particular, cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United States in reducing methane emissions into the atmosphere and the possibility of legislating collaboration in this field.

The head of state emphasised that Turkmenistan considers climate change concerns one of the priority aspects of its foreign policy. In this context, it was noted that Turkmenistan respects the position of the world nations, including the United States, regarding the measures taken to unite the efforts of the international community on this matter, while the proposals put forward by Turkmenistan are positively evaluated.

During the telephone conversation, the Special Representative of the US President expressed gratitude to Serdar Berdimuhamedov for his efforts in addressing significant contemporary issues, including the fight against climate change and the reduction of methane emissions. 

During their conversation, the participants emphasised that global environmental challenges present new obligations for nations worldwide. These obligations primarily involve modernising national plans and strategies, including adopting contemporary standards to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

After the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and John Kerry, the Special Representative of the President of the United States of America for Climate Action, expressed their mutual support for continued constructive cooperation between their respective countries.
