Turkmenistan recognises the development of the transport sector as one of the most crucial priorities of cooperation with the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Hojamyrat Geldimyradov said, speaking at the CIS Heads of Government meeting in Moscow on Monday, the Baku TV reports.

According to Geldimyradov, Turkmenistan aims to increase the volume of freight and passenger traffic consistently. In this context, the country supports coordinating actions with partners to create new transit routes and jointly enter major markets for transport services.

Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that projects such as the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway line open up opportunities for a significant increase in trade volume and quality and economic cooperation with CIS countries.

During his speech, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic and Financial Affairs also emphasised that the foreign trade turnover between Turkmenistan and the Commonwealth of Independent States countries exceeded $2.6 billion in January-October this year.
