Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan Trade Turnover to Exceed $1 Billion in 2023

The trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will exceed $1 billion by the end of 2023. It was stated during a telephone conversation between the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Thursday.

The participants also noted that trading houses are open in the capitals - Tashkent and Ashgabat, and joint efforts are underway to create a border trade zone, "Shavat-Dashoguz", the press service of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

The sides discussed topical aspects of further development of Uzbek-Turkmen relations of friendship, good-neighbourliness and deepened strategic partnership. The sides also reviewed the implementation of previously reached agreements, including within the framework of inter-parliamentary dialogue.

According to the report, cooperation between the leading enterprises of the two countries in the fields of industry, energy, agriculture, and transport is intensifying, and interregional relations are expanding. The Intergovernmental Commission and the Business Council successfully conducted regular meetings last year.

There was also an exchange of views regarding significant aspects of regional cooperation in Central Asia. The sides considered a schedule of meetings for 2024. 

Trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in January-November 2023 reached $970,1 million.
