The opening of the Tejen-Mary section of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway took place with the participation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, official media of Turkmenistan reported on Wednesday.
Construction of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway, which spans 600 kilometers, commenced on January 24, 2019. The construction included three phases: Ashgabat-Tejen (203 kilometers), Tejen-Mary (109 kilometers), and Mary-Turkmenabat (288 kilometers).
The first section of the high-speed highway, Ashgabat-Tejen, was inaugurated with the participation of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in October 2021.
The highway was awarded certificates for meeting the quality standards of ISO 9001 and for compliance with international standards in design and construction, particularly in "Road Construction Design" and "Construction Works." Additionally, the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway received certificates confirming the high safety standards of the route and the use of innovative technologies in its construction.
The construction of the road, along with the development of adjacent areas, was carried out by the Altyn Nesil Economic Society on behalf of the Türkmen Awtoban CJSC, which also served as the project's general contractor.
Along this six-lane road, favorable conditions have been created for passengers and drivers, including the construction of shops, cafeterias, hotels, engineering facilities, modern electronic payment terminals, communication systems, video surveillance equipment, speedometers, and more.
Furthermore, special telephone communication points have been installed along the road, connected to a control center for emergency calls and assistance.
During the ceremony, the Tejen-Mary section of the high-speed highway, built to global standards, was awarded five international certificates.
