President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with UK Foreign Secretary for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs David Cameron on Wednesday in Ashgabat. During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of utilizing the UK Trade and Industry Council extensively to further economic cooperation, reports Turkmenistan's news program Watan habarlary.
The meeting underscored Turkmenistan's commitment to its foreign policy based on the legal status of permanent neutrality, recognized twice by UN General Assembly resolutions, and its extensive international cooperation for peace, security, and sustainable development worldwide.
"We attach great importance to developing relations with foreign countries based on friendship, equality, and mutual respect. We consider it necessary to use international law and only diplomatic instruments to address challenges and conflicts," said Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Regarding trade and economic relations, the participants highlighted the growth of bilateral trade turnover and effective cooperation in sectors such as banking, finance, insurance, chemical industry, and trade.
According to the report, particular attention was given to issues related to climate change and its impact on human life. Serdar Berdimuhamedov and David Cameron also noted the existing potential for cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
During the meeting, the British side expressed readiness for cooperation in the field of education, particularly in utilizing educational programs and promoting English language teaching.
To conclude the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron wished each other good health, prosperity, and success in all endeavors.
