Under the leadership of Mammethan Chakyyev, Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, and Nouriddin Azizi, Afghanistan’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Turkmen and Afghan delegations met in Kabul on April 26, 2024, as reported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Afghanistan.
According to Türkmendemirýollary (Turkmen Railways) agency, considering the strategic location of both countries, discussions included preferential tariffs for Afghan exports, increased supplies of marble, limestone, and other minerals from Afghanistan, as well as the expansion of trade links and transit agreements between Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan, and the establishment of a large joint logistics center in Turgundi.
The meeting also addressed the development of railway infrastructure in Afghanistan, facilitating the shipment of oil and gas from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, issues regarding the quarantine of Afghan export and transit goods, reducing transportation and transit costs, and enhancing banking relations.
Furthermore, a trilateral meeting also took place in Kabul between Mammetрan Chakyyev, Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Nouriddin Azizi, Minister of Trade and Industry of Afghanistan, and Serik Zhumangarin, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan. Agreements were reached on the development of joint transport corridors.
