Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Saturday in New York. The two sides exchanged views on enhancing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations.
According to Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry, António Guterres praised Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality, emphasizing that its foreign policy contributes to strengthening peace and stability in the region.
In response, the Turkmen side reaffirmed its commitment to a foreign policy based on neutrality. Meredov also expressed Turkmenistan’s intention to continue close collaboration with the UN to implement the Global Security Strategy initiative proposed by the President of Turkmenistan at the previous General Assembly session.
Additionally, the Turkmen Foreign Minister mentioned the preparation of a plan to implement agreements reached during the visit. Special emphasis was placed on the significance of the year 2025, declared by the UN as the "International Year of Peace and Trust," an initiative led by Turkmenistan.
On September 27, 2024, the Turkmen delegation participated in a C5+1 meeting with the foreign ministers of Central Asian countries and the United States in New York.
