At the Cities of the Future Mayors Summit, organized by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and held in Geneva from September 30 to October 1, the Turkmen delegation presented key initiatives focused on water resource management and support for urban youth, as reported on Tuesday by the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.

Dovlet Jumayev, the Head of Avaza District Administration, proposed the establishment of a new legal mechanism for managing water resources under the auspices of UNECE. He also suggested organizing an international youth meeting in the smart city of Arkadag.

According to the report, these initiatives are aimed at addressing pressing issues of sustainable development and enhancing international cooperation.

In his speech, Jumayev highlighted Turkmenistan’s achievements in urban sustainability, citing projects that contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He presented the "smart city" of Arkadag as a significant innovation project and discussed the importance of the Avaza tourist zone for the country's development.

The Cities of the Future Mayors Summit, organized by UNECE, served as a key international platform for discussing urban development amid global challenges such as climate change, water scarcity, digitalization, and urbanization. The event brought together mayors, urban planners, and experts from around the world to exchange experiences and explore joint solutions for creating sustainable, smart, and livable cities of the future.
