Turkmenistan and EU Discuss Creation of New Transport Corridors

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Myahri Byashimova, met with a European Commission delegation led by Dietmar Krissler, Head of the Central Asia Division of the European External Action Service, on October 4, 2024, in Ashgabat. The talks focused on the creation of new transport corridors.

According to Turkmenistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides emphasized the importance of launching the Trans-Caspian Coordination Platform for Transport Crossings, which aims to support sustainable economic and social development in the region.

The meeting also discussed cooperation under the "Central Asia-European Union" dialogue. Participants highlighted the success of EU projects implemented in Turkmenistan across key sectors.

Priority areas included regional security, development, climate action, environmental protection, green and digital transformation, as well as energy and transport logistics cooperation.

On October 3, 2024, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received EU Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen, who visited Turkmenistan for a high-level meeting on the Trans-Caspian Coordination Platform. During the meeting, the EU Commissioner underscored Turkmenistan's role as a reliable transport bridge between Asia and Europe.
