A grand ceremony was held in Ashgabat to unveil the Kalbyň şypasy monument and the newly reconstructed Street No. 1970, now named after renowned German heart surgeon Hans Meissner, reported by official Turkmen media on Thursday.
The National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, attended the ceremony.
The festive atmosphere was enhanced by performances from cultural figures celebrating the extensive reforms being carried out in the country.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted Professor Meissner’s significant contributions to strengthening Turkmen-German relations in the healthcare sector.
In response, Professor Hans Meissner expressed his gratitude for the honor and noted the symbolic timing of the avenue’s opening, coinciding with the professional holiday for healthcare workers. He also emphasized the importance of the new medical centers initiated by the National Leader, which, in his opinion, play a key role in modernizing Turkmenistan’s healthcare system.
At the end of the ceremony, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Hans Meissner unveiled the plaque bearing the avenue's new name.
