The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is ready to support Turkmenistan’s efforts toward a sustainable and eco-friendly economy, according to Arthur Andrysiak, the director of ADB's country office, in an interview with Trend.
As part of its new partnership strategy with Turkmenistan for 2024-2028, ADB will focus on promoting climate adaptation and the green transformation of key sectors. Special attention will be given to reducing emissions and decarbonizing energy, transport, agriculture, water resources, and urban infrastructure.
“The bank aims to strengthen Turkmenistan’s national power grid, improving its efficiency and climate resilience while enhancing the integration of various renewable energy sources. These initiatives include additional funding to upgrade the grid and increase Turkmenistan’s capacity to export electricity to regional markets,” Andrysiak emphasized.
He also mentioned that ADB is working closely with the Ministry of Energy on projects to modernize gas power plants and increase the share of renewable energy. An essential part of this effort will be the development of a low-carbon transition roadmap for the energy sector, attracting investments in energy-efficient solutions.
In addition, ADB plans to support projects focused on expanding solar and wind energy and electrifying transportation networks, which will help Turkmenistan reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance the resilience of its infrastructure.
ADB remains a key partner for Turkmenistan, backing infrastructure improvements, human capital development, and climate change mitigation efforts.
