At the 25th plenary meeting of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the resolution “Central Asia – A Zone of Peace, Trust, and Cooperation,” initiated by Turkmenistan, was unanimously approved, announced Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov during the government’s regular online meeting on Friday.
According to the Vice Premier, the resolution was co-sponsored by the majority of UN member states as well as all regional countries, Turkmenistan’s official media reported.
Meredov also briefed the meeting on preparations for the upcoming session of the Strategic Advisory Council “Turkmenistan – United Nations,” established with the support of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in March 2024.
A preliminary draft Action Plan has been prepared, including international and regional initiatives linked to the UN Resolution “2025 – International Year of Peace and Trust,” which will be reviewed at the upcoming session.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the proposals for holding the next Council session and tasked the Vice Premier and Foreign Minister with specific instructions related to the agenda items.
Several other priority issues concerning national governance were also discussed at the government meeting.
