Turkmenistan is celebrating the 31st anniversary of its national currency, the manat.

On this occasion, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov extended his congratulations to the nation’s banking professionals and citizens, commemorating the manat’s introduction. Official media outlets reported this statement on Friday.

“The introduction of the national manat created positive opportunities for the harmonious development of the economy, stable cash flow, and the effective implementation of a unified state monetary policy,” the President remarked.

To mark the anniversary, Turkmenistan will host a scientific-practical conference titled “The Turkmen Manat – A Symbol of the Country’s Sustainable Development.”

The manat was introduced on November 1, 1993, as Turkmenistan’s official currency, with a redenominated version of the currency’s coins and banknotes released on January 1, 2009.
