The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, held a meeting with Italy's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, on January 14. During Cirielli’s working visit to Ashgabat, the two sides discussed comprehensive bilateral relations, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The two diplomats emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong bilateral political dialogue and explored opportunities to enhance cooperation in trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian sectors. Both acknowledged the significance of high-level engagements in advancing relations between the two nations.
Discussions also focused on collaboration within international organizations and the Central Asia–Italy framework. The diplomats highlighted the successful history of cooperation at the United Nations and stressed the value of mutual support for global initiatives aimed at fostering peace and sustainable development. Both sides expressed optimism about the continued development of productive partnerships in areas of shared interest.
On the same day, Turkmen-Italian political consultations took place, led by Turkmenistan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmet Gurbanov, and Edmondo Cirielli.
The talks covered the current state and future prospects of Turkmen-Italian relations. The officials exchanged views on regional and global issues of common interest and deliberated on organizing joint events as part of the International Year of Peace and Trust.
During the discussions, both sides identified significant potential to expand trade and economic cooperation, underlining the importance of arranging meetings and forums among business representatives.
Additionally, the diplomats highlighted the need to strengthen bilateral collaboration in archaeology, education, and cultural exchanges. Both nations reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing political dialogue and pursuing mutually beneficial cooperation across diverse fields.
