Representatives from the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the Customs Committee under the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a video conference on February 4, 2025, to enhance operations at the Farap Avtoyollary-Alat checkpoints, focusing on capacity improvements and proposals from both sides, as reported by the press service of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan.
Since the reconstruction of the Farap Avtoyollary checkpoint in December of last year, there has been a notable rise in vehicle traffic between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. In light of this increase, officials identified collaborative tasks aimed at further enhancing checkpoint capacity.
To address issues promptly, both sides agreed to appoint contact persons responsible for resolving matters related to the Farap Avtoyollary-Alat checkpoints. They also planned to hold joint meetings for representatives from the two customs services.
Additionally, the conference included discussions on familiarization measures for Uzbek foreign trade participants regarding the Preliminary Declaration mechanism, which was implemented in Turkmenistan on June 1, 2024.
