President of Turkmenistan Discusses Cooperation Development With Japanese Special Advisor

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Akihisa Nagasima, the special advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan. During the meeting, both sides discussed the current state and prospects of Turkmen-Japanese cooperation, focusing on interaction in the political-diplomatic, economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres, as reported by official media of Turkmenistan.

Both sides noted that Turkmenistan and Japan actively interact not only bilaterally but also multilaterally, including within the Central Asia + Japan dialogue. The President emphasized the importance of this format for strengthening regional cooperation and wished for a successful first summit of the participating heads of state.

A key topic of the negotiations included Turkmenistan's participation in the World Expo EXPO-2025, which will take place in April in Japan. The head of state pointed out that Turkmenistan supports the event, has established a special organizational group, and is preparing for the exhibition.

Akihisa Nagasima highlighted that Japan expects a high-ranking Turkmen delegation to participate in EXPO-2025.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to further strengthen its partnership with Japan and wished Akihisa Nagasima success in his work.

On February 5, 2025, Turkmenistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov met with a Japanese delegation led by an advisor to the Prime Minister Akihisa Nagasima. During their conversation, both sides discussed the prospects of Turkmenistan's participation in EXPO 2025 in Osaka and addressed issues of trade and economic cooperation, including joint projects in the gas and chemical sectors.
