Political consultations took place on February 12, 2025, in Tehran between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The delegations were led by the heads of the foreign policy agencies, Rashid Meredov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, and Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran.
During the meeting, officials discussed key issues of bilateral interaction in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The consultations also addressed the prospects for the work of the inter-parliamentary friendship group between the two countries and upcoming activities in this area.
Trade-economic cooperation emerged as an important topic of discussion. Participants reviewed current indicators of bilateral trade turnover and identified priority areas such as the fuel and energy sector and transportation. They focused on water resource management and the work of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.
In conclusion, attendees discussed cultural-humanitarian initiatives including joint activities planned for 2025 as well as opportunities to strengthen ties in science, education, healthcare, and sports.
