National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, interviewed with Euronews correspondent Loro Baccheli. The discussion covered key aspects of Turkmenistan’s foreign and domestic policy, the country’s role on the international stage, and prospects for further cooperation with the European Union and neighboring states, as reported by the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan, published on Saturday.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan bases its foreign policy on neutrality and has successfully maintained it for many years. Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty stressed that Turkmenistan avoids international conflicts and actively promotes peaceful coexistence and mutual respect. He also highlighted the country’s commitment to building friendly relations with states that share common interests and seek sustainable development.

Turkmenistan continues strengthening political and economic ties with the European Union. In the interview, Berdimuhamedov underscored the importance of cooperation in energy security, natural gas supplies, green energy development, and sustainable water resource management.

"First and foremost, we aim to launch joint projects in green energy and supply electricity to Europe," said the National Leader of the Turkmen People.

National Leader of the Turkmen People reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to collaborate closely with European partners on natural gas supplies. He identified the Trans-Caspian route as a key initiative for this effort.

The discussion also addressed water and energy resources. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stated that Turkmenistan actively works on water supply issues, particularly in Central Asia. He proposed creating a Regional Council on Water Use in Central Asia to develop mechanisms for managing transboundary river resources.

The interview also covered Turkmenistan’s cooperation with Afghanistan. Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty affirmed Turkmenistan’s consistent support for Afghanistan’s economic and infrastructure recovery. He detailed Turkmenistan’s ongoing economic projects with Afghanistan, including the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India gas pipeline, power transmission and communication lines to Pakistan via Afghanistan, and railway connections from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov concluded the interview by expressing confidence in the continued expansion of Turkmenistan’s cooperation with the European Union in economic and diplomatic fields.
