The European Parliament hosted a special meeting on Thursday focused on the role of neutrality in strengthening international peace and trust, as reported by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium.

The event featured the Ambassador of Turkmenistan, members of the Mejlis, the advisor to the President of Slovakia, members of the European Parliament, diplomats, representatives from international organizations, think tanks, and the media.

The discussion centered on permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan, which is enshrined in the country’s Constitution and recognized by the UN as a significant foreign policy tool. The recent UN resolution "On the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan," adopted in March, also attracted particular attention.

Participants emphasized the importance of neutral platforms in promoting dialogue and preventing conflicts in today’s world.

On March 21, 2025, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted the Resolution "Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan" during the 61st plenary meeting of the 79th session, under the agenda item "Peacebuilding and the Maintenance of Peace."
