President of Turkmenistan Meets With EBRD Chief in Samarkand

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, on a working visit to Uzbekistan, met with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Odile Renaud-Basso, in Samarkand on Thursday. The talks took place as part of the first “Central Asia – European Union” summit, as reported by the official media of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the head of state emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of international economic cooperation, particularly its engagement with leading financial institutions. In this context, the effectiveness of the country’s long-standing partnership with the EBRD was highlighted.

Odile Renaud-Basso, in turn, praised Turkmenistan’s economic development and expressed the bank’s interest in expanding cooperation. Key areas of collaboration identified included energy, transportation, and the digital economy.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development was founded in 1991 by 40 countries and two international organizations. Today, the bank operates in 34 countries, with its activities in Turkmenistan beginning in 1992.
