The first Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Ministerial Forum on Sustainable Development took place on 27 April at the Markav hotel in Arkadag, as reported by Turkmen official media.

The forum brought together leaders and representatives of government agencies from ECO member states, international organizations, diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan, and specialists from Turkmenistan’s ministries and sectoral departments.

According to report, the main goal of the meeting was to advance partnerships and exchange practical ideas for implementing the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030, with a focus on the regional context. Participants shared experiences and sought solutions to adapt sustainable development goals to the specific conditions of their countries.

The forum in the city of Arkadag is set to adopt a final document that will serve as a guide for future joint efforts. The event in Arkadag marks the first forum in the history of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). For Turkmenistan, it is another step in strengthening its role in regional and international matters related to sustainable development.

The city of Arkadag, which opened in 2023, was chosen for the forum due to its commitment to "green" development principles and sustainable infrastructure.

Founded in 1985, the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is a regional body comprising 10 member states: Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Türkiýe, and Uzbekistan. The ECO focuses on enhancing trade, transportation, energy, and tourism, and its headquarters is located in Tehran.
