Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met on Thursday with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Khankendi, according to the press service of the Azerbaijani president.
Meredov conveyed greetings to President Aliyev from the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, as well as from President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
President Aliyev thanked Meredov for the greetings and asked him to convey his best wishes to the Turkmen leadership and the brotherly people of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the close historical, cultural, and ethnic ties between the Azerbaijani and Turkmen peoples, describing them as brotherly nations. They exchanged views on expanding cooperation in energy, transportation, culture, humanitarian affairs, science, education, and other areas.
The two officials also emphasized the importance of cultural exchange, noting the recent organization of Turkmenistan Culture Days in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan Culture Days in Turkmenistan.
