Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held talks Thursday in Baku with Acting Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Afghanistan for Economic Affairs Abdul Ghani Baradar. The two sides discussed cooperation in the energy and transport-communication sectors.

The talks focused in particular on the implementation of major regional projects, including the construction of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) gas pipeline, as well as power transmission and fiber-optic lines along the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan (TAP) route, according to Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The officials also reviewed ways to strengthen political and diplomatic dialogue and expand trade and economic ties between Ashgabat and Kabul.

The meeting was held as part of the Turkmen delegation’s visit to Azerbaijan for the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit, taking place July 3–4 in Khankendi.
