President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, aiming to fundamentally reform the country’s transport and communications complex and improve its management system, decided to abolish the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers and introduce the position of Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers for the Transport and Communications Complex. Mammethan Berdimuradovich Chakiyev was appointed to this position for a six-month probationary period. The decision was made during an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Friday, Turkmenistan’s state news agency reported.
President Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of increasing passenger and freight transportation volumes, improving the quality of related services, intensifying work on modernizing railway routes, and increasing the capacity of the railway system.
The head of state also gave specific instructions on fully utilizing the potential of the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port and the Balkan Shipbuilding and Repair Plant, the ongoing modernization of the communications sector in line with current requirements, and the establishment of new types of services in this field.
The government meeting also reviewed the results of work carried out over the past six months, discussed the progress of the country’s socio-economic development programs, and addressed personnel issues. Reports were also heard from deputy chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, several officials, and provincial governors.
