The Mejlis of Turkmenistan has adopted a resolution granting village and township status to several newly established settlements in Ahal and Dashoguz provinces, official media reported on Monday.
In the Ak Bugday etrap of Ahal province, a new village named Dowletli Mekan has been established within the territory of the Ongaldy gengeshlik. The village has been designated as the new administrative center of the gengeshlik. A similar administrative change occurred in the Kaka etrap, where the village of Bagtly Zaman was founded within the Govshut gengeshlik and also designated as its administrative center.
In Dashoguz province, a new township named Bitaraplyk has been established within the Taze Yol Gengeshlik of Koneurgench etrap. The Taze Yol Gengeshlik has been dissolved, and its villages — Taze Yol, Chilter, Gamyshlyoy, Garashsyzlyk, and Gazaker — have been placed under the administrative jurisdiction of the new Bitaraplyk township. The existing mandates of former gengeshlik members will remain in effect until the end of their legal terms.
The Ministry of Agriculture, in coordination with the administrations of Ahal and Dashoguz provinces, will carry out the delineation of new administrative boundaries. The changes will be reflected in the official Register of Administrative-Territorial Units of Turkmenistan.
This decision was made in line with the country’s social development programs and within the framework of the "Program of the President of Turkmenistan for Socio-Economic Development for 2022–2028” and the “National Program for the Transformation of Living Conditions in Villages and Settlements by 2028.”
