Azerbaijan will gift Turkmenistan an 8,000-ton oil tanker as a symbol of fraternal ties between the two countries. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year or early next year Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Economy Sahib Alekberov said on Thursday at the Turkmenistan Investment Forum (TIF 2025) held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone, according to ORIENT.

The deputy minister emphasized that transport cooperation between the two nations goes beyond symbolic gestures. He pointed to a memorandum signed in August in Avaza on developing international air connectivity between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. According to Alekberov, the agreement will create a direct air route over the Caspian Sea, that is expected to be in high demand among business and tourist travelers.

Alekberov noted that the logistical connectivity between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan benefits not only the region but the entire continent. “As it was once said, all roads lead to Rome, now we can say that all roads pass through Turkmenistan. This is the shortest route between Europe and Asia,” he said.

The deputy minister expressed confidence that the active development of transport corridors will have a positive impact on the investment climate and strengthen the political and economic dialogue between the two countries.

Earlier, Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Construction and Architecture announced a tender for the design and construction of a mosque in the city of Fuzuli, Azerbaijan.
