The President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov announced the completion of the strategically important Mary-Turkmenabat section of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat high-speed highway. The head of state made the announcement during a working visit to the Lebap velayat, where a groundbreaking ceremony for the new industrial facility was held.
The President of Turkmenistan emphasized that the successful and speedy completion of this project is crucial for the development of the national transport and logistics system and the strengthening of the country's transit potential.
The Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway, with a total length of 600 kilometers, is the largest infrastructure project being implemented as part of the revival of the historic route of the Great Silk Road in a modern format.
The project is divided into three phases, two of which have already been commissioned: Ashgabat-Tejen (203 km), completed in October 2021; Tejen-Mary (109 km), completed in April 2024; and Mary-Turkmenabat (288 km), currently in the final stages of construction.
The commissioning of the final, longest section, Mary-Turkmenabat, will ensure seamless and high-speed communication between the capital and the country's eastern region, as well as provide transit cargo with quick access to Uzbekistan and further access to the extensive continental route network. The highway has six lanes and is equipped with advanced traffic management and road service systems, meeting the highest international standards.
The head of state emphasized that Turkmenistan prioritizes the socioeconomic development of its regions. In this context, he also mentioned the ongoing construction of a new, modern building complex at the Seyitnazar Seydi Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute in Turkmenabat.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the programmatic activities for the comprehensive development of the velayats and the creation of modern industrial, social and cultural facilities will be consistently continued, demonstrating the country's firm commitment to industrialization and improving the quality of life.
