Kazakhstan and Afghanistan discussed plans to create a Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan transit corridor, including the construction of a Herat–Turghundi railway route, the press service of the Kazakhstan's Prime Minister reported.
The issue was addressed during a bilateral meeting between Serik Zhumangarin and Nuriddin Azizi in Shymkent on Tuesday as part of the Kazakhstan–Afghanistan business forum.
According to the report, the Trans-Afghan corridor, connecting to Pakistan’s Karachi port and integrated with the North–South project, will provide access to ports in the Persian Gulf and India. Together, these initiatives establish a new Central Asia–South Asia (CASA) trade axis.
Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan have launched a test route linking China with Baku, as part of efforts to strengthen regional transport ties and expand international logistics.
