Ashgabat hosted the ceremonial unveiling of the renovated Neutrality Monument, the centerpiece of events marking the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, Turkmenistan’s official media reported Thursday.

The event was attended by heads of delegations who arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the International Forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, Neutrality Day, and the 30th anniversary of the country’s permanent neutrality. Participants also included members of the Mejlis, Cabinet ministers, heads of ministries and agencies, and representatives of accredited diplomatic missions and international organizations.

Speeches were delivered by the Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, Chairmanwoman of Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova, and Director-General of the UN Office in Geneva Tatiana Valovaya. They highlighted the international significance of Turkmenistan’s neutral status and emphasized that its recognition in 1995 was an important contribution to regional stability.

The monument’s unveiling was a key part of the program leading up to the International Forum “Peace and Trust: Unity of Goals in the Interest of a Sustainable Future,” scheduled for Dec. 12.
