The lights of Turkmenistan’s main New Year’s tree were switched on in Ashgabat ahead of the holiday season. The traditional celebration took place in the square in front of the Älem cultural and entertainment center, state media reported Monday.
The tall tree was decorated with colorful lights and festive ornaments. Numerous residents and visitors to the capital attended the event. The holiday program featured performances by folk and dance ensembles, as well as theatrical shows with fairy-tale characters.
During the ceremony, Ayazbaba and Garpamyk greeted children and handed out New Year’s gifts, adding to the festive atmosphere.
On the same day, New Year’s tree lights were also switched on in other cities and districts of Turkmenistan, marking the start of nationwide holiday celebrations.
