President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov announced plans to explore building mini-plants to recycle plastic PET bottles and household appliances. The announcement came during a meeting with representatives of the Japanese business community on Friday in Tokyo, according to official Turkmen media.

The president noted that these projects aim to reduce plastic in the environment, return polyethylene to secondary circulation, and decrease the volume of hazardous and hard-to-decompose waste containing metal, plastic, and electronic components.

Berdimuhamedov emphasized that over years of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Japan, a high level of trust and reliability has developed, supported by the friendly nature of bilateral relations, mutual understanding, and respect for each side’s interests.

The country is consistently working on modernizing industrial infrastructure, developing waste recycling, and introducing principles of rational resource use. In this area, Turkmenistan considers advanced solutions and technologies from Japanese companies, including Mitsubishi, Toyota, Mitsui, and Sumitomo, Berdimuhamedov said.

The president also proposed initiatives to improve wastewater treatment and to develop a modern plant for recycling household and construction waste.
