National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a phone call with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Berdimuhamedov emphasized the need to develop a joint action program to address water issues in Central Asia, the Aral and Caspian regions, and the Amu Darya basin, Turkmenistan’s state media reported.
Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence in Mirziyoyev’s support for preparing joint proposals on organizational, substantive and legal aspects of upcoming summits, Turkmenistan’s state media reported.
The sides exchanged New Year greetings ahead of 2026 and extended wishes of peace, progress and prosperity to the peoples of the two countries. Mirziyoyev also conveyed greetings to Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
They also discussed the regional agenda and preparations for international events scheduled to be held in Turkmenistan in 2026, including the consultative meeting of the heads of state of Central Asia and Azerbaijan and a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership.
