Turkmenistan, Russia Discuss Preparations for CIS Leaders’ Summit

The National Leader of Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, held a telephone conversation Tuesday with Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko, during which preparations for the CIS Heads of State Summit were discussed, Turkmenistan’s official media reported.

Berdimuhamedov noted that, according to a decision of the CIS Council of Heads of State, the next Commonwealth Summit will be held in Turkmenistan on October 9, 2026. The Turkmen side plans to host the event at the National Tourism Zone Avaza, which has all facilities for organizing major international forums.

The National Leader of Turkmen people also emphasized the importance of preparing events under Turkmenistan’s CIS chairmanship, including the Women’s Dialogue, the meeting of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, and the Conference on Demography.

The conversation highlighted the dynamic development of Turkmen-Russian relations in 2025, marked by a number of significant events. Special attention was given to humanitarian cooperation and patriotic engagement.

The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan highly appreciated Russia’s support for Turkmenistan’s neutral foreign policy and the country’s efforts to strengthen international stability.

Berdimuhamedov and Matviyenko exchanged New Year greetings for 2026, extending best wishes to each other.
